Arrival of Main Stay June 6, 2002 "Here we go again!", was the original entry in Main Stay's paper journal. I had finally found something that made me want to retire. Little did I know the time and money that a project like restoring a 45 foot coastal cruiser house boat would take. Retirement became a thing of the past as money to work on "HER" became a real "necessity". Work became a means to an end and I worked all week to accomplish the next boat task on the weekend. Number one was getting her home from half a mile up our local bayou. I enlisted the help of my sons, Carl and Emory, and grandson,Colin, to tow her to our dock with our pontoon boat. Cannot remember Greg's exact words but there must have been some use of stupid fool in there somewhere. The previous owner came by to get his money and tell me about the specifics of the boat but I soon learned why the boat was in such bad shape. He knew nothing about the boat, diesel engines, air conditioners, generator or anything else on this boat. I engaged a mechanic and Perkin$ di$tributor to remove all removalable parts ie; raw water coolers, impellers etc. We bench checked,repaired/reassembeled, and replaced everything. Now we could actually take her out for a test ride. I had never driven a twin screw but had driven smaller single engine boats so I was soon feeling comfortable in open areas but close maneuvers would come slow.
